Community

Lost Boys Learning is located in the Comox Valley on the east coast of Vancouver Island.

There are three communities located in the Valley: City of Courtenay, Town of Comox and Village of Cumberland. The city of Vancouver on the mainland is a 3 hour trip by car and ferry or 45 minutes by air. See MAP.

The cities of Courtenay and Comox are large enough to provide a wide range of shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities, and small enough to find your way around. There is bus service and lots of people use bicycles.

There are many activities to consider. We are very close to Mt Washington to ski, the Pacific Ocean to swim, kayak or whale watch and the forests to bike and hike. You can watch the salmon run in October and the return of the trumpeter swans in December.

The Valley is home to 70,000 people. The residents of the Valley are friendly and welcoming. Everyone speaks English because it is the only language of business and study. We enjoy many outdoor sports. The arts community is highly developed and talented. Education and learning are very important to the people who live in our Valley.

The climate is temperate – summer daytime temperatures of 24 degrees Celsius and winter daytime highs of 6 – 8 degrees. The coldest it will get in the winter is about minus 5 degrees Celsius, and we will get some snow. Year round we enjoy biking, golf, beach walks and kayaking. During the summer we add swimming, biking on the mountain and tubing on the river and it is sunny most days. In the winter we enjoy skiing, snowboarding and skating. We have sun in the winter but days can be rainy in the Valley with snow on the mountains.

Recreational activities:

The Comox Valley offers many options for entertainment including film, live theatre and music, a wide variety of dining choices, and a long list of outdoor activities. Named the Cultural Capital of Canada in 2007, they are host to a number of festivals each year including Vancouver Island MusicFest.
