Alumni Profile

“One of the things that I have most appreciated about my time under Bénard's leadership was how well he prepared me for dealing with this industry. Not only were all of the projects and instruction extremely helpful, the way Lost Boys runs their studio is very similar to the studios that I’ve worked in so far, so the transition was much more seamless for me than it was for a lot of the other junior artists that I spoke to who had no idea what to expect, weren’t given good tools for managing their workflow, and were not used to receiving criticism on their work. I feel that Lost Boys not only gave me the instruction and tools to create a great demo reel, but they prepared me very well for actually getting and keeping a job in this business.” —Jennie Bates, Compositor

Why did you decide to attend Lost Boys?

I wanted a more personalized experience with very hands-on training.  I learn better when my education has a fair amount of self-direction.

What would you say to prospective students considering Lost Boys?

The most important thing to look for in a visual effects school is how well it prepares you to get a job.  Artistic acumen is really important, but being prepared to deal with this industry is what will really set you above the hundreds of others competing for the position that you want.  In my experience, Lost Boys is one of the few schools out there that will both help you develop artistically AND professionally.

Can you share any opportunities that have resulted from your Lost Boys experience?

Lost Boys helped me get an internship at Zoic Studios which prompted my move to Los Angeles.  Becoming local to the area helped me get my position at Stargate Studios LA.
